The Wait Is Almost Over

Are you a candidate for a pinhole gum recession procedure? The pinhole gum recession procedure is a revolutionary procedure that allows Dr. Rice and her team to to decrease gum recession without soft tissue grafting, without sutures, and with less discomfort overall!

In a typical grafting procedure Dr. Denine Rice would have had to remove skin from the roof of the mouth in order to graft skin onto the area where tissue was missing. Once it was placed, the healing process would begin. This procedure required cutting, sutures and time, and patients may have had to wait months for healing, or they may have had to get grafting procedures done in incremental sessions that could cost a lot of money.

Last week Dr. Rice and her team became updated on the Pinhole technique because this revolutionary procedure can help her patients get the smile they deserve without the pain and healing time that other periodontal procedures take. This procedure allows Dr. Rice to build up the healthy tissue with just one tiny pinhole, no sutures, and quick healing.

How Does The Pinhole Grafting Procedure Work?

You may have been one of the lucky ones who heard that Dr. Rice & her team are trained in the Pinhole Grafting Technique. Dr. DenineRice and her team can help you build up healthy gum tissue and change your smile. So, how does this procedure work?

Once Dr. Rice and her team have determined you are a candidate for this procedure. You will schedule an appointment. At your first visit, Dr. Rice will utilize a special tool that creates tiny pinholes in the gums around the tooth that has recession. Then Dr. Rice will move surrounding tissue into place. This will cover the root of the tooth. After this is completed the healing will begin.

Most patients say there is little discomfort or pain during the procedure. They are not put under and do not usually require even light sedation during surgery. This means you can get back to the things that are important in your life without waiting for your gum graft procedure to heal.  A very small amount of patients do experience swelling, infection or tenderness, but the risk of this is reduced because this procedure allows for the area to heal faster.

Is a Bone Graft Procedure After Extraction Normal?

A bone graft procedure helps to build up bone that may have been damaged or become unhealthy due to infection. You may have heard your periodontist suggest a bone graft procedure after your extraction and felt it was unnecessary. Or your last dentist may have suggested it was unnecessary and just removing the tooth was fine to get your smile back on track. Dr. DenineRice and her team feel differently and here’s why:

An extraction of a tooth can remove healthy tissue as well as unhealthy tissue. Dental tools and procedures have changed, and are more effective and efficient then in the past but this procedure is not always a clean-cut procedure depending on the tooth and the gum tissue around the tooth. Some dentists and periodontists may not be familiar with bone grafting procedures or be comfortable completing this procedure. Dr. Rice, performs this procedure often and knows the outcome for her patients is better when they have the healthy tissue they will need in order to place an implant after the tooth is extracted.

The bone is a necessary component for keeping your teeth in place. Without enough healthy tissue to accomplish this goal, the implant cannot hold.
