The Wait Is Almost Over

Are you a candidate for a pinhole gum recession procedure? The pinhole gum recession procedure is a revolutionary procedure that allows Dr. Rice and her team to to decrease gum recession without soft tissue grafting, without sutures, and with less discomfort overall!

In a typical grafting procedure Dr. Denine Rice would have had to remove skin from the roof of the mouth in order to graft skin onto the area where tissue was missing. Once it was placed, the healing process would begin. This procedure required cutting, sutures and time, and patients may have had to wait months for healing, or they may have had to get grafting procedures done in incremental sessions that could cost a lot of money.

Last week Dr. Rice and her team became updated on the Pinhole technique because this revolutionary procedure can help her patients get the smile they deserve without the pain and healing time that other periodontal procedures take. This procedure allows Dr. Rice to build up the healthy tissue with just one tiny pinhole, no sutures, and quick healing.

Contact Dr. Rice and her team today in order to determine if you are a candidate for this procedure.

10 Questions You Have Always Wanted To Ask

You may not have visited a periodontist lately but there may be burning questions you want to know the answers to. Here are 10 of the most common questions that Dr. Rice and her team get asked.

1.     Why is flossing important?

Flossing is critical in order to remove food particles from between the teeth. Without it, food builds up between the teeth, goes below the gum line, and can cause decay and periodontal disease.

2.     Are bleeding gums normal?

No, this is never normal and it can be an early sign of periodontal disease.

3.     Does Periodontal disease really cause heart disease?

Research shows there is a correlation between heart disease and periodontal disease.

4.     Do I really need to floss 2x a day?

Flossing after consuming foods, especially carbohydrates, is important to keep your smile
healthy. Flossing at least 1x a day can keep problems from arising, but more is better.

5.     Does a laser periodontal procedure hurt?

No, the laser goes below the gum line to clean out bacteria. There is no cutting or sutures for periodontal laser surgery or for laser curettage.

6.     Is a laser periodontal procedure safe?

Yes, it is very safe. The laser is a high precision laser that works to remove bacteria but does not damage healthy gum tissue.

Are Your Gums Swollen

It may seem like no big deal on a day-to-day basis to have swollen gums, but leaving this problem unsolved and up to nature can cause major problems later on. Swollen gums may be the beginning of periodontal disease and other gum problems. Here are six problems you may encounter if your gums are swollen due to improper or absent flossing routines in your day to day life.

The most important thing is to not wait. If you notice your gums are swollen do not assume it is nothing and make sure to make an appointment with your periodontist, Dr. Rice and her team. It is critical for your smile to be analyzed and the problem to be taken care of. In the meantime, if you are not brushing or flossing regularly. You will want to begin with these healthy oral hygiene routines.

Eat more fruits and vegetables and decrease your carbohydrate intake. Fruits and vegetables can remove food from the surface of the teeth and get your gum health back on track. In between consuming meals, chew sugar free gum or brush and floss. Discontinue using tobacco or smoking. Both of these substances can irritate your gums further and cause more severe problems for your gums.
